When you report a problem
To help us fix things quickly, please include:
- Your Chrome version (Menu → Help → About Google Chrome)
- The extension's version — it is at the bottom of the extension's window, for example
v0.4.0 - What you were doing, what you expected, and what happened
- If a video is missing or a download fails: open the extension on that page, click Missing a video?, then Copy diagnostics, and paste the result into your message. It lists what the page loaded, so we can see what went wrong. Look it over first: it contains the addresses of the page and its media.
Frequently asked questions
A video plays on the page, but it isn't in the list.
Most players fetch the video only once it starts playing, so press Play and wait a moment; let any ad finish first. If it still doesn't appear, open the extension, click Missing a video? and then Reload and look again, which reloads the page so every request is seen again.
Why can't I download from YouTube?
YouTube does not allow its videos to be downloaded, and extensions in the Chrome Web Store may not do it. On YouTube, and for YouTube players embedded in other sites, the extension says so instead of offering a download.
A video says it is protected (DRM) and can't be downloaded.
Streaming services such as Netflix or Disney+ encrypt their video with DRM (Widevine, PlayReady or FairPlay). No download can get past that, and Vision Downloader does not try: it tells you before you click.
Which formats can I save as?
MP4 (the default), MKV, or the raw stream; or just the sound, as M4A (the original audio, not re-encoded) or MP3. Streams are rewrapped without re-encoding, so the picture is exactly what the site sent.
Where do my downloads go?
To your Downloads folder, or to the last folder you chose with Save as… in the menu beside the Download button. Names and folders can follow rules of your own: Settings → File names and folders.
Can I get subtitles, or another audio language?
Yes, when the site offers them: the video's card shows a Subtitles row and, for videos with
several languages, an Audio row. Subtitles are added to the MP4 or saved as an
.srt file beside it. Set the languages you prefer in the settings.
Can I record a live stream?
Yes. A live stream's card says LIVE and its button says Record. Press Stop to save what was recorded, or Discard to throw it away.
Does it cost anything?
No. Vision Downloader is free, with no limits on how much you download.
Is my data collected?
Nothing is sent to us. To find videos, the extension reads the pages you visit on your computer only, and keeps your settings and history in your browser. See the Privacy Policy.
Please download only what you have the right to keep: many sites' terms forbid downloading their videos.
